I learned from an associate who breeds Great Pyrenees/Great Dane cross livestock guardian dogs; that to guard fowl, you want the most docile easy-going dog of the litters. I remember visiting her one day, and all the dogs were at play; except for one. It’s usually always just very chill. She pointed to that one and said, “that one’s going to be for gardening chickens”.
So when Laura was ready to get a livestock guardian dog for her fowl, I told her the same. It worked out; Carl is a super chill dog, very docile and well-behaved. Laura said it has been the best, well behaved, chill dog she has ever had. She was shocked. The only real problem we’ve had with him was potty training him for the house, and that’s normal for puppies.

We got him in January, and she has been training him to be dual purpose guardian dog. Carl was born November 6th, 2024; he is Anatolian/Cane Corso cross. Anatolians are great livestock guardian dogs, Cane Corsos are great Castle guardian dogs. So he will be good to guard the livestock and the land in general.
His parents were also dual purpose livestock/land guardian dogs. We also might be adopting his father in the future 🤩
