Dolly

We don’t know how old Dolly is, but she’s about a year old this month of November 2025

I’ve wanted a Llama for a long time, but they are expensive. I never needed a Llama, till I got sheep. When I got the sheep, I didn’t realize they would not protect their young from predators. So when they had Llamas at the auction, and I was home; I decided to go bid on them.

Laura and I went up before the auction to meet the Llamas, and the older black Llama seemed to like me and seemed friendly. It wasn’t like super friendly, but it kept coming over to me and sniffing me. It seemed like it wanted to like me.

There was another older Llama there that was gargling, so I make sure not to bid on that one. I was going to bid on the black one, and if it didn’t get that one, I’d bid on one of the younger ones.

There were four young ones, five adults, two with babies. They auctioned off the two moms and babies first. Than I found out the black one was a male, so I didn’t bid on him, for they say you don’t want a male Llama with your sheep and goats. Male Llamas will try to breed your sheep and goats, resulting in injuries and possibility death. I didn’t want to take that risk.

All the bids were high, so I didn’t think I was going home with a Llama this time; the last one started out a little lower, and I won the bid. I got her for $1100, which is about half of what they would normally go for.

We took her home, she doesn’t seem aggressive, more timid; hopefully she will acclimate well. She follows the sheep and goats around, but they are scared of her. Meanwhile, she is scared of us. Hopefully once she bonds with the sheep and goats, she will see how much they like us, and eventually warm up to us as well.
